In Alan Jones and Laura de Coppet's interviews with legendary New York gallery owners, talented, sensitive and insightful critics and art lovers who struggled to promote the artists they believed in, we find a voice for all the major art dealers from the post-World War II period to the early 2000s. So Betty Parsons tells us about when she first exhibited the work of Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko; Leo Castelli tells us about the first solo exhibitions of Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol; Mary Boone and Annina Nosei explain how they helped launch the careers of Julian Schnabel and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The authors, as profound connoisseurs of the field, draw splendid portraits of the great personalities involved, succeeding in painting the protagonists of this page of History with just a few very effective brushstrokes, capturing and conveying their enthusiasm and love for this fascinating world.I
