Hello and welcome to Onstream Gallery.
In this article we'll explain why you should buy a painting in the Gallery and what it really means.
Why do some people choose to go to the Gallery rather than to a good painter who can do it for them?
Why should I buy a work of art in the Gallery instead of an artist's studio?
We will be answering these questions in the coming weeks, but first we want to introduce ourselves.
Onstream Gallery is the first online Art Gallery that doesn't like definitions.
We are Mainstream, meaning we are for everyone.
We don't care who's on the other side of the screen.
You've never bought a piece of art in your life?
Are you looking for a painting that will look good over your sofa?
We don't care.
We care about serving you in the best possible way, but we don't care if you've never had anything to do with the Art World.
You will not be judged if you have never dealt with Contemporary Art.
Similarly, you'll be welcome if you're the biggest expert on emerging artists in Italy.
We know that in the World from which we come, entering a physical Art Gallery involves some problems.
First of all, having to ask someone how much that canvas or that little wax sculpture costs, because they don't tell us right away.
Then, it might come naturally to us to pretend we know everything about the work we are looking at.
Because to say that we don't like a canvas or that it doesn't convey anything to us would be like admitting that we don't fully understand it.
The world of Art is a world where creativity, culture and beauty mix together giving birth to new elements, in continuous evolution.
However, it's also an opaque world, sometimes impenetrable if you're not from the right circle.
In our case, after several experiences in the Art sector - if you want to know more about who we are, click here - we decided to change way.
We combined our digital skills with the needs of the Market and created Onstream Gallery.
But what does it mean to buy a painting in the Gallery and what does it mean to do so on Onstream Gallery?
Let's try to explain it in brief.
The Art Galleries are fascinating places, born at the beginning of the last century.
Usually located in the urban centers of cities, they aim to unearth talent and are often the hottest and coolest part of any capital city.
Going into the specifics though, what exactly does an Art Gallery do?
Have you ever wondered how a living artist gets exhibited in a museum?
Probably not, but we assure you that a museum, such as the MAXXI in Rome, does not have to exhibit works by dead artists.
In fact, more often than not they are living, breathing artists who have made careers.
But what does it mean to "make a career" for an artist?
Every artist has that moment:
the moment he is "discovered" by a Gallerist and begins to enter his circle of collectors.
Galleries are in the business of scouting out young talent, investing resources in them, both money and time, and getting them into the business.
What do you mean, Collector's Tour?
You should know that there are people who love to surround themselves with artwork and trade to increase or change their collection.
This is more often than not a wealthy environment, involving people with higher than average purchasing power.
And then there are the others.
People who want to use a canvas or sculpture as a piece of furniture for their home or office.
Only instead of sending them to IKEA, where the artist's creative act is actually renounced, we at Onstream Gallery prefer to welcome them here.
Therefore, one could say that there are two types of people:
collectors who buy for the love of their collection and often, for investment.
And then those who have to furnish their own home or studio.
With taste, in a different way than the others, but the aesthetic aspect of the work will always win over any other aspect. And that's all we need.
And then there is a third type of people:
those who seek both.
Let's be clear, these are just definitions, and as such should be taken with a grain of salt.
We don't care what group you belong to.
We care that you enjoy putting a face to contemporary culture with us. Day after day.
If you are fascinated by the world of the Art Market, we recommend a book: funny and sometimes sarcastic, it is called The 12 Million Dollar Shark.
Reading that book, you will discover that buying a painting in the Gallery means choosing to become part of an exclusive, glamorous world.
Let's be clear, we love that world, and it has taught us a lot.
We've been working in it as a natural consequence of our studies, and it's not that bad.
But we also know the other side of the coin.
That is why we want to be clear on one point:
there are no nobler reasons than others when you decide to buy a work of art.
When you decide to buy a piece of art, there are personal reasons.
Every time you decide to buy a painting, be it a canvas, a sculpture, a video installation you decide to give a gift to yourself.
For this reason on Onstream Gallery you will always be advised when you decide to buy a work, but never judged.
You will always be accompanied, but never led to make one choice over another.
By subscribing to our Newsletter you will always know about Online Exhibitions in advance.
